M.BILLY, an autonomous car of Hyundai Mobis, will start a test run on the world`s major roads.

Hyundai Mobis announced on April 19 that it will conduct an evaluation of the MBL to develop Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous navigation systems in the state of Michigan, USA from the middle of this month.

Level 3 is a partial autonomous driving that requires driver intervention in special situations, while level 4 is an autonomous driving stage that does not require driver intervention.

The company has taken the letter M from the New Mobility Experience, a vision for technology development at Hyundai Mobis, and it has symbolic meaning that it will leap into a global component company focusing on core technologies of the future automobile. The car is equipped with an autonomous drive system for Kia K5.

M.Billy will start a test run at the same time in the United States, Germany and Germany. Hyundai Mobis received an M-plate license from the state government in 2016 for self-propelled vehicle development.

Domestic launch is scheduled to acquire a license in May and Germany in June.

The evaluation of the M.Billy is carried out on the actual road after first performing the preliminary function check and the safety evaluation in the probing ground (the driving test site) which is almost similar to the general road.

The test vehicle includes 8 front-end cameras (1), radar (5), lidar (1), ultrasonic sensors (12) and surround view monitoring (SVM • 4) 25 sensors are installed.

Hwang Jae-ho, Hyundai Mobis DAS Design Manager, mentioned, "Currently, M.Billy operates three units in each region, and will expand to more than 10 units this year, and will enter into massive pilot operation." We are aiming to mass-produce a level 3 autonomous drive system in 2022."

"As the sensor is a core technology that plays a role of a human eye in autonomous vehicles, we are focusing on developing my own sensor with high accuracy."

By 2021, Hyundai Mobis will raise R & D investment to 10% of its component sales, and half of the investment will be invested in ICT, including autonomous sensors. Currently, the number of researchers in the autonomous driving field, which is 600 persons, will increase by 15% every year until 2021.
