Park Jung-ho, the president of SK Telecom, has apologized for the phone trouble that occurred on June 6. The company decided to cut off the two-day charge of about 7.3 million people who have suffered damage without being bound by the damage compensation regulations stipulated in the terms and conditions. The compensation amount is estimated to be KRW 20 billion~30 billion.
SK Telecom decided to pay damages for the LTE voice call and text messaging service that occurred on the previous 7 days, and posted an apology on its homepage. Park Jung-ho, president of SK Telecom, said in an apology posted on the T World website, "I sincerely apologize to all customers who have suffered from this disability," and "I will do my best to thoroughly review the entire telecommunications infrastructure to ensure safer and more reliable services." He said.
Meanwhile, SK Telecom revealed that it would compensate all customers who suffered from the disability regardless of the terms and conditions. Customers who have not received service for more than 3 hours under the Terms of Service will be compensated, but they will be compensated to all customers who have experienced service discomfort. Accordingly, it is estimated that about 7.3 million people who have suffered a single call or text message failure will be compensated. Guidance messages will be sent to the subjects.
SK Telecom compensates the user for the damage due to this disability for two days of actual payment. The monthly payment for the actual payment is the amount actually paid after applying various discounts (excluding the optional discount). The two-day compensation is 600-700 won depending on the fare.
SK Telecom`s service disruption occurred on March 6 from 2:17 pm to 5:48 pm for 2 hours and 31 minutes. The cause of the failure was identified as a voice equipment error for LTE HD. It is analyzed that the HD voice that should be delivered to VoLTE is not transmitted to the LTE network due to the equipment error, and the frequency band is switched to the narrow 3G network.
This is not the first time SK Telecom has compensated for a telecommunications failure. In September last year mobile navigation T-map caused a two-hour connection failure, giving victims` compensation of 20,000 won to 33,000 people. Also, in March 2014, when a communication failure occurred for 5 hours and 40 minutes, about 5.6 million people were directly compensated for 10 times the basic rate of the damage time, and all customers were given a one-day charge for the next month`s rate.
Despite SK Telecom announced the compensation plan quickly, there are few complaints that the compensation amount is small considering the business damage. After the disaster in 2014, 20 agents, including agents and quick-service reporters, sued SK Telecom for damages of 100,000 to 200,000 won per person, but in July of the following year.¡±
