SK Broadband has its own international submarine cable network.

SK Broadband, on April 5, revealed that it will invest KRW 100 billion in the international submarine cable business that connects nine Asian countries and complete the service in the first half of 2021.

SK Broadband has decided to participate in Southeast Asia Japan Cable 2 (SJC2), an international submarine cable construction consortium that connects Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.

The consortium includes nine companies including SK Broadband, Singapore SingTel, China Mobile International, Taiwan Chinatown Telecom, Cambodia Chuan Wei, Japan KDDI, Thai True Group, Vietnam VNPT and Facebook.

This international submarine cable project connects 11 regions in 9 countries. It has a total length of 15,000 km, which provides higher transmission capacity than existing submarine cables. It will be completed in the first half of 2021 and start commercial service. SK Broadband plans to invest a total of W100bn including a joint route and a branch route to South Korea. With the participation of the submarine cable consortium, SK Broadband will be able to receive video of UHD quality (25Mbps) at 360,000 subscribers at the same time, and 9 terabytes (Tbps) of a 4GB capacity movie that can transmit over 280 units per second Securing international submarine cable capacity.
