KT Corporation has completed the work on fine dust measuring stations installed in Seoul and 1500 metropolitan cities. This project is one of the `Air Map Korea` projects being promoted with the government and seems to speed up business as fine dust has recently become a serious social problem.

According to industry sources, on March 27, KT is carrying out pilot tests in some areas ahead of the completion of the construction of a micro dust measurement facility at the end of this month. KT has also developed an open platform to allow the government and municipalities to utilize the fine dust data.

Meanwhile, KT built an air quality monitoring network including air pollution in the base stations, Jeonju, and public phone booths for the Air Map Korea project. Through this network, we will measure the regional air quality data of minute dust, ultrafine dust, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon dioxide, noise and humidity. KT has invested about KRW 10 billion for this purpose, and is working with K-weather, a measurement equipment maker.

KT is coordinating the schedule with the government to measure the air quality according to the time of completion of the current construction.

A representative of KT said, "As the dust has recently become a social issue, we will soon start operation with smooth schedule coordination." In addition, KT is discussing how to use fine dust measurement data with the government.

KT has contracted with local governments to operate `Air Map Service`. Starting in Gwangmyeong City last July, air quality including fine dust is measured in Changwon City, Jeju Island, Yeongdeok County, Gyeongbuk Province Metropolitan Government, and Gwangju Namgu in addition to `Air Map Korea`. Therefore, KT analyzed the floating population and areas with micro dusts and built an air quality monitoring network based on Internet of Things (IoT) for base stations, telephone booths and bus stops.

KT analyzes the area with high concentration of fine dust and provides it to the local government based on the data measured at the site. In fact, the municipalities that use KT`s AirMap Korea service are using the data provided by KT to operate the sprinkler system, resulting in a fine dust reduction effect of about 20%. In addition, KT supports the use of the data of indoor and outdoor air quality comparisons between the measurement network and the air conditioner and the air purifier to drive the air conditioner and the air purifier.

A KT representative said, "Air Map Korea is proceeding as part of its social contribution activities." We will make a contribution to improving the quality of life through accurate air quality measurement."
