SKT ¡®Nugu¡¯ conversation 100 million per month¡¦ Competition for AI eco system to be fierce

SK Telecom`s artificial intelligence platform "Nugu" has exceeded 100 million users per month in terms of user talk volume. SK Telecom plans to use various large-scale voice data obtained here to promote various artificial intelligence (AI) services. SK Telecom`s AI business is expected to be one step ahead of the competition to expand the AI platform ecosystem among mobile carriers.

SK Telecom held a meeting at the Samjwa Building in Euljiro, Seoul on March 14, saying that `Who``s conversation volume exceeded 100 million per month, and monthly actual user (MAU) exceeded 3 million. This is the result of SK Telecom`s strategy to foster AI ecosystem, which combines AI with various areas such as T-map, kids phone, and set-top box.

Nugu conversations have increased rapidly since SK Telecom exceeded 100 million in April last year, seven months after launching its first AI speakers. Over the past 10 months, cumulative conversions have also exceeded one billion. Monthly room users rose to 110,000 in August last year, but rose steeply after launching `T map x Who` in September, and 2.36 million in October, the following month. In February, the number of monthly users reached 3.36 million during the holiday season. According to SK Telecom, about 6% of the total citizens use 3 million monthly users, and the US, which is leading the speech recognition AI device market, has entered the full-scale growth rate with the spread of Alexa exceeding 7%.

SK Telecom has improved the caller recognition engine based on the data obtained here, lowering the recognition rate to one-fourth of the previous level and raising the caller recognition rate to 97%. Whose real user increased, T Map X whose role was great. Of the 3 million monthly users, 60% were T-map users and 40% were speakers, BTV, and kids watch users.

SK Telecom plans to upgrade its AI service and expand its product line. In the second half of the year, we will launch VoIP (Internet telephony) using display type who and whom, and open up B2B platform. Also in May, it will work with CJ Hello, a cable TV company, to show someone in the form of a set-top box and a remote control. At the end of the year, it aims to have 5 million users per month. "As the amount of users` conversations grows, SK Telecom gets a hint as to how to make and reorganize various services," said Myung Soon Park, head of the SK Telecom AI business unit.

Competitors are also accelerating their AI business against SK Telecom`s aggressive AI expansion strategy. KT is expanding its ecosystem by combining its AI platform `KIGAGINI` with various services. Especially recently, we plan to show travel and entertainment services using AI in cooperation with Hana Tour and Geum Young. LG U + is using Naver `s Clover, an AI platform that has the highest level of data in Korea. In particular, we are working to expand the AI ecosystem by increasing the number of actual users combined with the market`s number one home IoT service.

An industry expert stated, "The more AI you connect to a variety of devices and services, the more likely your users will get access to the AI platform in real life. "Especially, mobile operators are expanding users with a variety of AI devices There is an advantage that it can be done."
