Construction period to be shortened thanks to exclusive technology¡¦¡®Sliding center¡¯ export to target a vein of gold

"It`s different from when we actually came to the game, and the game is exciting because there is a mixture of shouting and skeleton sounds." Choi Seon-hak, who watched the women`s skeleton game at the PyeongChang Olympic Sliding Center on February 17, said it was satisfactory.

Eton, who visited the PyeongChang Olympic site in the United States, mentioned, "I heard the sound of the sleigh being heard in the stadium." The Japanese national team also said it was cold, but the actual game was full of excitement and fun.

Sliding centers are emerging as a highlight of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Yoon Sung-Bin, who was on the snow day, has been increasingly looking for a gold medal at the skeleton for the first time in Asian history. The entire facility received high marks from the athletes and officials and was recognized for excellence in the Korean construction method. Exports of this construction method are expected to be even higher.

The PyeongChang Sliding Center, which I found again on the morning of February 19, was calm but busy. It is time to get ready for a Korean national team to go hunting for medals in a sled event once again. Officials were organizing around 5 pm to meet the audience. From the starting point to the finish point, the track majors, which differed by 117m, were more overwhelming than those on TV.

PyeongChang Sliding Center is the world`s 19th-built sleigh-only stadium. It is designed to be 2018m in total to celebrate the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games. Daelim Industrial Co., Ltd., a construction company, applied its experience in civil engineering to existing sliding centers. One of the notable methods is the pre-production of hundreds of jigs (railway structures that can hang frozen pipes) that become the skeleton of the ice track. Countries with sliding centers were not the same as those using manual methods of assembling pipes and putting concrete on site.

Daelim Industrial has applied the automation method to the construction of the sliding center and made it at the outside factory and assembled it in the field. In a month, we completed hundreds of jigs without fault, shortening the construction period from 30 months to 18 months or 12 months. It takes at least 20 months to build a track for a sled, which has been shortened by eight months. The Sliding Center for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, which took place just before the opening, took 20 months to complete.

Besides, it applied an automatic welder for pipe welding when we connected the freezing pipe long. It is a method of welding joints at high temperatures of 1600 ~ 6000 degrees when the ends of the pipe are tied to the automatic welding machine, which looks like a big laundry pliers. The existing construction manpower shortened the welding time to one tenth of the time by hand and prevented the risk of refrigerant leaking through pipe joints.

Also, Daelim Industrial applied the patented shotcrete method to concrete pouring of 42 curves with varying angles. Shotcrete is a concrete sprayed with compressed air as if spraying with water. The company used high strength materials with strength more than 50% higher than conventional shotcrete, and made use of an admixture to keep the shotcrete from solidifying quickly between 20 and 30 seconds.

It is expected that the technology will be exported to overseas while applying advanced technology to construct the sliding center. It is expected that exports will be resilient because of the recognition of the center`s excellence at the Olympic Games. In fact, Daelim Industrial has been granted the international patent by the US and China, and in particular, China, which is in the process of holding the 2022 Winter Olympics, has requested Daelim Industrial to advise the track method.

"As the International Bobsleigh Federation acknowledged, this technology is going to become a sliding center to be built in the future," said a Daelim Industrial official. "We built the sliding center for the first time in Korea and lacked technology and information. "We are looking forward to becoming an international standard for technology."
