Seven of the world`s top ten TV markets have joined the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV camp. The three fights between the QLED camp of Quantum dot (QTD) technology, which is Samsung Electronics` number one in the global TV market, and the OLED camp of LG Electronics, the world`s second largest, are getting more and more intense.

According to the industry on January 29, it was confirmed that Sharp and China`s high-sense OLED TVs were launched from CES 2018, the world`s largest information technology (IT) exposition earlier this year. As a result, the number of companies entering the OLED TV camp including the top ten global TV sales volumes (quantity) increased to seven including LG Electronics, Japanese Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, China Hisense, AOC and Skyworth.

Meanwhile, according to market researcher IHS Markit`s global TV market share in the third quarter of last year, the market share of these seven companies is 38.9%. The industry expects the two companies to join the OLED camp this year and compete for share in the QLED camp and the market. According to IHS Markets, OLED TV sales rose from 216,000 units in the first quarter of last year to 347,200 units in the third quarter of the same year. As a result, QLED TV sales volume decreased by 46,200 units from 462 thousand units during the same period. The industry estimates that LGE`s price competitiveness in OLED TVs has increased, as the price of 55-inch OLED TVs is lowered to the mid-2 million won level.

Samsung Electronics is showing a new technology of `micro LED` for flat TV products this year, and it is showing signs of a change in competition between both sides by using `two track` strategy of QLED and micro LED. Samsung Electronics` QLED TV sales volume has decreased from 608,300 units in the first quarter of last year to 292,100 units in the second quarter and 295,500 units in the third quarter. "Samsung Electronics, which accounts for 20% of the world market, is concentrating on Quantum Dot LCD TV, and OLED TV is still a premium TV "However, there is a point that Samsung Electronics` influence on the TV market is not the same as before, so it should be watched more."
