[Digital Times, Jong Ye-rin] It is suggested that the Korean government should change the frequency to be used for LTE-M, which is expected to be placed in the first half of this year.

The government is pushing ahead with the 700MHz frequency band released by the RFP last year. However, the telecom industry claims to change to commercial frequencies because ultra-high definition (UHD) broadcasting using the same frequency band and signal interference may occur.

According to the industry on January 15, some mobile carriers, which are expected to participate in the ordering of the wireless maritime network project which invests about 130 billion won, have to use a frequency other than the 700MHz band announced by the government with this network frequency. In particular, SK Telecom has argued that temporary RFPs are unreasonable, and it is beginning to say that it will use commercial frequencies that SK Telecom has already used, not 700MHz from 2H06.

Meanwhile, SK Telecom representative said, "The wireless maritime communication network should transmit LTE communication up to 100km by sea. It is necessary to build a base station in a high altitude of 1000m or more." As the base station is limited, base stations are located at intervals of 30 ~ 50m, So it should be avoided with UHD broadcasting network. "

The marine plant research institute under the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is also said to be unavailable for 700MHz alone. According to industry sources, the institute is considering using the 700 MHz band as a disaster safety net and adding commercial frequencies to use the maritime Internet. "The 700 MHz band is an internal network, and there is a problem with security, so it is actually difficult for fishermen to use the Internet."

Meanwhile, there is a controversy over the frequencies used for wireless maritime networks and the government adheres to no plans to change existing frequencies. In particular, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs claims that 700 §Ö is allocated to the disaster communication network, which is a national internal network, so that it can save tax money compared to using telecommunication company`s commercial network.

On the one hand, the government is conducting experiments to minimize the controversy over UHD broadcasting and signal interference. The government announced in June that there was no significant interference between UHD broadcasting stations in the 700 MHz band and UHD broadcasting networks. In December last year, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs was planning to conduct further experiments on the East Sea of Kangwon Province, which started broadcasting UHD, but postponed to January due to weather problems. An official of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs emphasized that it is not an experiment on signal interference, saying, "It is not an experiment of whether or not to use the 700 MHz band, but an experiment to adjust the antenna to find the optimal environment when using the 700 MHz band."

However, it is reported that there is some movement in the sea bureau that suggests using the commercial network with the 700MHz band. An official of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs said, "Currently, we are considering a way to reduce the information gap between land and sea by using the 700§Ö and the commercial network in the usual sea area except for the passenger ships.

Meanwhile, KT, which has been selected as a pilot company for wireless maritime communication network, has taken the position that there is no problem in the 700MHz band set by the government.
