Hyundai Motor Group has reduced executive promotion by 10% compared to last year because of increasing uncertainty of management and sluggish earnings this year. Instead, the promotion to achievements and research and development has expanded. As Hyundai and Kia Motors, the group`s mainstay, are continuing to slump, they will be reinforced with measures to strengthen their future growth engines.

The Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group has promoted 2018 regular executives to 310 employees, including 159 Hyundai and Kia Motors and 151 affiliates. By job category, 15 vice presidents, 31 executives, 56 executives, 92 directors, 115 board directors, and 1 senior researcher were promoted. The figure was 10.9 percent lower than last year`s 348, the smallest in seven years.

The total number of executives has decreased, but the number of R & D and technology promoters has risen to 137, up from 133 last year. As a result, the share of R & D and technology among all the promoters increased by 6.0 percentage points from last year (38.2%) to 44.2%. This is the largest in the last five years, the group explained.

Among the candidates who are promoted as vice-presidents, the ratio of R & D and technology is more than half. Vice President of Luke Doncahl Volke (photo) and 8 of them are in charge of R & D and technology. In addition, the group said that it increased 36.4% of the vice president`s promotion from last year (11 people) in order to sustain the growth potential by continuously cultivating the leader candidate in the medium and long term.

In particular, the vice-president`s promotion is reflected not only in R & D and technology, but also in the role of performance. This year, Hyundai, Kia Motors, Genesis, etc., won 26 awards this year in domestic and other six design awards. Vice President Luke Dongkar Volke, who is included in the promotion list, is head of Hyundai & Kia design.

Meanwhile, Hyundai is focusing on new markets such as India and Pakistan. As a result, two commercial vehicles were included. Lee In-chul, head of the commercial export business of Hyundai Motors, and Hyundai and Kia Motors` commercial R & D specialists, Michael Ziegler, director of development for Daimler Truck Concept Cars, and Mark Fremuller, director of Mercedes-Benz Mini Bus Marketing and Sales, are expected to reinforce their role in expanding new markets and expanding sales in the commercial sector.
