The results of the Korean government`s second open - source OS development project will be released on Tuesday, 14 November, to move away from the subordination of Microsoft Windows, which is virtually monopolizing the domestic PC operating system.
According to the related organization on December 4, Ministry of Science, Technology, and Information and Communication will hold a briefing to open the 1.0 version of the open OS `cloud`.
The cloud is an open OS that has been developed by the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (ETRI)
According to a survey conducted by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) in April on the domestic Internet usage environment, the dominance of Windows OS in domestic PCs is 96.99%, which is virtually exclusive to Microsoft. Windows 7, which terminates service support in 2020, will account for 47.6% of the total number of Windows versions. Cheong Wa Dae `s business system is also using Windows 7 to upgrade.
Meanwhile, the government released a beta version of the open OS Harmonica (R) in 2014, based on Linux, the open SW, to reduce Windows dependency and license budget burdens through the Information Technology Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA). Instead of paying for Windows OS, we used free harmonica from public institution PC to increase OS completeness and plan to spread and spread to the general public. However, due to lack of awareness of harmonica and compatibility problems with other SWs, it has been neglected to use it instead of Windows.
In the meantime, the National Security Agency has begun to develop an open OS cloud that improves the harmonica problem and enhances security. In general, public organizations use harmonica instead of Windows, and organizations that demand high security, such as military, prosecutors, and police, use clouds to lower their reliance on Windows. The National Statistical Office completed the beta test of cloud 1.0 version through the development of SW for 2 years and released the results of the presentations on the 14th briefing session. It will discuss public beta testing for other organizations and private companies.
A representative from the Ministry of Information and Communication said, "We will introduce the results of the research through the 14th briefing session,
An expert from the SW industry said, "We are developing an open OS in order to escape the dependence of Microsoft Windows on various countries such as the US Department of Defense, Japan, India and Russia." Unlike harmonica, "The expectation for the cloud is high."
