Organic light emitting diode (OLED) TV products are becoming larger and larger. If the 55-inch OLED TV market is the product of the year, large-size OLED TVs of 60-inch and larger, including 65-inch and 77-inch,

According to market researcher IHS Markit on November 21, sales of 65-inch TVs are growing rapidly in the OLED TV market led by LG Electronics, Sony, China`s Skyworth, and Panasonic.

It has increased from 11.9% in 2015 to 27.5% in 2016. This year, it accounted for 32.9% of the total, which has doubled in the last three years. The 77-inch range also rose from 0.0% in 2015 to 0.4% this year. On the other hand, 55-inch OLED TVs dropped from 88.1% in 2015 to 72.4% in 2016 and to 66.7% this year.

The display industry is forecasting that OLED TV enlargement will accelerate next year, with 65-inch sales accounting for more than 40% of sales, which is close to 50%. In addition, the 77-inch portion increased slightly from 0.0% in 2015 to 0.4% this year, but we expect the sales portion to increase significantly next year.

As such, the size of OLED TV flagship products is growing because LG Display, which is the only producer of large-size OLED display panels in the world, is increasing OLED panel production and 65-inch panel prices are dropping due to improved yield.

Meanwhile, the 65-inch OLED TV accounted for 45.7% of LG Display`s panel sales in the third quarter. Especially, consumers who have hesitated to buy large OLED TVs due to high prices are considering purchasing products as prices have recently fallen.

OLED TV prices were twice as expensive as LCD TVs with the same screen size by 2015. However, the price difference has dropped to 1.45 times last year, and this year the gap narrowed to 1.3 times.

The reason for this price decline is that OLED panel prices have fallen. LG Display`s official said, "We have been able to lower OLED panel prices because the number of bad panels is much smaller than the first, and the production volume has increased." In this year, 65- and 77 and the trend toward larger OLED panels will become more pronounced next year."
