Minister Yoo Young-min ¡°5G frequency to be launched within next year¡±¡¦ Commercialization first in the world in 2019

Yoo Young-min, the Minister of Science, Technology and Information, has announced that it will supply new frequencies next year for the world`s first 5G commercialization.

At the opening ceremony of the `2017 Radio Broadcast Industry Promotion Week` held at the The Kei Hotel in Yangjae-dong, Seoul on November 20, Yoo Young-min said, "The government is committed to providing 5G technologies and services that are ultra-broadband and intelligent wireless networks, "We will supply the new frequency next year for the world`s first commercialization of 5G in 2019," he said.

"We will use the technology of the excellent broadcasting broad-casting industry such as 5G, UHD broadcasting and IoT (Internet of Things) as an opportunity to show the world to the next PyeongChang ICT Olympic Games next year," Yu said. He also stressed that "the terrestrial UHD broadcasting in the metropolitan area, which successfully opened this year, will be expanded nationwide by 2021 and pave the way for the second phase."

Meanwhile, the minister also expressed his willingness to adjust the frequency allocation system of the present. "We need to adjust the frequency allocation system now," Yu said after meeting with reporters. "The government will be moving as soon as possible because we can prepare for the telecommunication companies and handset makers as soon as next year along with 5G and autonomous vehicles, IoT, and UHD broadcasting.¡±

Kwon Young-soo, president of Korea Radio Promotion Association (LGU + Vice Chairman), said, "Radio is playing a more important role in 5G and is a key means of enabling realistic services such as autonomous vehicles." LG U Plus said.

The 18th annual promotion week will be hosted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Information, and will be jointly organized by the Korea Radio Promotion Association (RAPA), Korea Broadcasting and Communications Agency (KCA), the Korea Electromagnetic Engineering Society, the Digital Times and the electronic newspaper. More than 300 people attended the opening ceremony, including Yu, minister of the National Science and Technology Information and Communications Commission, Min Jae Il, Min Kyung Uk, Commissioner Ko Sam-seok of the Korea Communications Commission, At the opening ceremony, exhibitions and awards were held on excellent radio and broadcasting technologies developed by domestic companies and contests for outstanding papers. The Presidential Award for Radio Broadcasting Technology this year was awarded by DS Broadcast, which developed `ATSC 3.0 4K UHD Monitoring Decoder` for SK Telecom Prime Minister who developed "Network System for Low Power Internet (IoT)". Yu and his guests heard the explanation of the award-winning technology at the demonstration booth in front of the event.

Promotion Week will be held from January 2 to December 1, with the theme of `smart world connected by radio waves, 4th industrial revolution led by radio`, and there are 16 various events from around the country including expert discussion, .
