Waymo¡¯s fully autonomous driving vehicle running on Phoenix Street in Arizona, USA

Google succeeded in autonomously driving to its destination without a driver. Waymo, a subsidiary of Google`s parent company alphabet, was the first to launch a fully self-propelled vehicle on public roads that did not sit in the driver`s seat.

According to US IT specialist media such as Tech Crunch on November 7, "It is possible that part of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan, which is a self-propelled vehicle of the Waymo in Phoenix, Arizona, can operate in fully autonomous mode" "We will add more fully autonomous vehicles in large areas."

"Without a driver sitting in the driver`s seat, the citizens will be released and a video of the Phoenix area will be released in a completely self-propelled mode," a driverless vehicle will commute passengers or bring their children to school. "

Meanwhile, Waymo has been running self-driving service for residents of Phoenix since April. However, in this pilot operation, an auxiliary driver who controlled the malfunction of the autonomous vehicle sat in the driver`s seat.

In the rear seat of the unmanned minivan, a screen such as a navigation system was attached to show detailed information such as the driving course, the speed limit in the area, and whether the autonomous vehicle yields to the pedestrian.

In the first few months, Waymo will leave the car in the back seat of the vehicle to help stop the car in an "emergency." In the future, it will operate as a self-propelled taxi that does not burn employees, and will sell the self-propelled vehicle to individuals in the long term.

Waymo stated that it did not disclose how many passenger cars would be serviced in fully self-propelled mode and how much the passenger would have to pay for the service.

Meanwhile Uber, competing with Wei Mo, has piloted an autonomous taxi in Pittsburgh, but the driver is still sitting in the driver`s seat. In Korea, Naver announced that by the end of the year, it will raise the level of self-propelled vehicle technology to "four levels". Step 4 is a step where the person carries out the operation of the large frame, such as setting the destination and driving mode of the vehicle, and leaving the remaining detailed driving to the machine. In the fourth stage, the driver does not have to drive, but the driver must be in front of the driver in case of an unexpected situation or a specific section requiring direct driving. Naver currently has three levels of autonomous driving technology in which drivers must operate manually in an emergency.
