ETRI ` intelligent digitalization` strategy (Top)

The fourth industrial revolution is a hot issue. The fourth industrial revolution has been heating up the world since Klaus Schuob made his debut in January at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Experts diagnose that the fourth industrial revolution has already begun. Compared to the previous three industrial revolutions, it has a strong impact in terms of speed, scope, and influence. It gives us a prospect of bringing great changes and innovations that have not been seen before in our lives.

Companies around the world are fiercely competing to take the lead in the fourth industrial revolution. Korea is also busy making policies and strategies to lead the fourth industrial revolution as information and communication technology (ICT).

Among them, Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), the largest national research institute in the field of ICT in Korea, is concentrating on R & D innovation by introducing `Intelligent Digitalization (IDX)` as a new R & D strategy leading the fourth industrial revolution. Based on the IDX strategy, we will look at ETRI`s technology development strategy and future changes to tackle the massive wave of the fourth industrial revolution.

◇ Fourth Industrial Revolution Technology Basis is "Super Connected, Super Intelligent, Super Sensitive" = In last year`s Davos Forum, the Fourth Industrial Revolution was compared with the existing 1st, 2nd and 3rd Industrial Revolution in terms of speed, scope and influence It is expected to bring about tremendous changes. For this reason, the Fourth Industrial Revolution was predicted to bring about a catastrophic change in the whole of the national system such as economy, society, culture and labor, and the life of mankind, beyond the power that had been mainly influential on the innovation of manufacturing and service industries.

It is a common opinion among experts that the transition to the fourth industrial revolution and the flow of change will ultimately depend on the convergence between science and technology. The core technology that will lead the 4th industrial revolution is realization technology such as Internet (IoT), cloud, network technology such as cloud, artificial intelligence, intelligent information technology such as machine learning, hologram, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) I have received. These technologies will evolve into super connective, super intelligent, and ultra-realistic forms based on the development of ICT, which will serve as the foundation for the fourth industrial revolution. ETRI`s Technology and Economics Research Group Director, Sim Jin-bo said, "IOT`s `super connectivity` is expanded, and artificial intelligence is added to big data and cloud base to deepen `super intelligence`, realistic feeling such as AR • VR ICT`s new wave of technological innovation will lead the 4th industrial revolution. "

◇ ETRI, the fourth industrial revolution led by the IDX strategy = If the third industrial revolution was led by "DX (Digital Transformation)" called the digitization, the fourth industrial revolution was the IDX (Intelligence Digital Transformation) ETRI expects to become a key powerhouse.

IDX is a technological change that upgrades the social and economic system of mankind by adding intelligence information technology to existing DX, adding super connectivity and fresh sensibility. In other words, it is the R & D and industry development strategy to lead the fourth industrial revolution era and to prevail the future growth power by internalizing the ICT-based technology such as super connectivity, super intelligence and super realization to the present system.

ETRI is concentrating its organizational capability in establishing R & D strategy to create new business and value-added by `intelligent digitization` of national and social systems in order to respond to the fourth industrial revolution.

To accomplish this, we selected 14 areas to apply the IDX strategy first, and formed a committee for each sector. The committee is planning to develop core and source technologies to create new industries and markets by internalizing IDX in 14 fields such as manufacturing, distribution, transportation and energy.

"Through IDX, we will create a totally new business and value-added, and we will be able to bring about a great change and innovation in all our economic and social systems based on this," said Lee. Through ICT R & D, ETRI will do its best to serve as ICT innovator leading the fourth industrial revolution era. "
