KT “Pyeochang 5G pilot service preparation came to an end”… Declaration on network building completion

[Digital Times, Kim Ji-young] KT, on October 29, has announced that it is ready to show the world’s first 5G pilot service in 2018 in Pyeongchang.
KT held the `Pyeongchang 5G pilot network preparation meeting` with the organizing committee of Samsung Electronics and 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games at `Pyeongchang 5G Center` located in Alpensia ski jump center on the 27th. KT has completed the construction of the conference network and broadcasting relay network in June, and the 5G pilot network for the 5G pilot service to be launched in PyeongChang in 2018 was completed on 27th, so that all the network infrastructure for the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games And declared it was built.
As the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Winter Games official communication partner, KT provides all network infrastructure including conference network and broadcast relay network. Especially, KT showed `5G service demonstration` that transmits large-capacity video by linking 5G pilot network of KT with 5G terminal of Samsung Electronics which complies with `Pyeongchang 5G standard` at `Pyeongchang 5G Center`. The Pyeongchang 5G Center is a base camp for researching KT`s 5G and ICT innovation technologies. It has the core facilities such as 5G network and terminal for field test of the world`s first 5G pilot service. The organizers of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, KT and Samsung Electronics` major executives will review the 5G pilot network built at the opening and closing ceremonies of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, major stadiums, and autonomous driving courses. And confirmed that handover is possible.
KT will focus on optimizing the network infrastructure of Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games for the remaining 100 days until the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games in the future, and will provide a complete Olympic network by operating the Olympic General Situation Room. Especially, in case of 5G test network, intelligent control system with automatic fault prediction and recovery function is introduced for perfect service.
"KT is completing the integration of Pyeongchang 5G network infrastructure and network-terminal-service interconnection and completes all preparations for KT 5G in Pyeongchang," said Oh Sung-mo, head of KT network division. It is expected to provide the world`s first successful 5G pilot service through operation. "
