The competition of market share in the mobile market is in the form of a `representation` of three subsidiaries of Yitong. The number portability between the three companies will be promptly addressed by the government`s market research, but the competition is not apparent on the surface.
According to the mobile phone industry on October 11, SK Telecom, KTM Mobile and Media Log, three of the three mobile carrier subsidiaries, are acting as agents of "losing their subscribers".
According to the September mobile market numbering statistics collected by the Korea Telecom Operators Association, number portability subscribers of three telecommunication companies have been decreasing for three consecutive months. Number mobile subscribers, which had reached 661,717 in July, decreased to 591,562 in August and 562,700 in September. In August and September, it was interpreted as a result of the `wait demand`, in which the discount rate plan for the selective subscription plan was upgraded and the number portability was temporarily held ahead of sales of premium handsets such as the Galaxy Note 8. Besides, unlike in the past, the number of mobile users is not so large because the benefits for existing subscribers have increased, as it is possible to receive subsidies at a level similar to that of number portability by simply replacing the device without replacing the terminal.
On the other hand, there is a vigorous competition where there is a lot of poisonous number movement. In May and July, the mobile phone carrier has also launched `target marketing` aimed at subscribers, resulting in the phenomenon that the subscribers of mobile phones are returning to mobile carriers.
This seems to be due to the intensified competition among the three phone companies` wholly owned subsidiaries. According to a correspondent in the telecommunications industry, "Some MNOs are allocating their market share as a business goal, not including the current open standards, but also by their affiliate companies."
Meanwhile, SK Telecom is the number one mobile telecom market by subscriber base. As of the end of July, the number of subscribers was 270.1 million, accounting for 42.96% of total subscribers. KT, with 16.2 million, accounted for 25.76%, while LGU + posted 12.4 million, accounting for 19.73%. Along with 7,260,000 subscribers, 11.54% of total subscribers will be included. As the proportion of subscriber base increases, the importance of attracting more subscribers is getting more important.
Especially, it is stated that it is easy to attract cheap mobile phone subscribers at a relatively low cost compared to existing MNO subscribers.
An industry expert said, "SK Telecom has 800,000 subscribers, KT Mobile has 500,000 users, and MediaLog has 200,000 subscribers. Even if these subscribers are included, there is not a big change in overall mobile market share. Said it is relatively easy to attract and compete against the surface, and the three companies are now making efforts to attract subscribers to their mobile phone subscribers."
