Mobile operation senior official to join interest group after retirement

[Digital Times, Kang Eun-seong] The vice minister of the telecommunication regulator and the first grade senior officials have revealed that nine people have been reemployed to the law firms in the past three years, whose interests are closely linked to the interests of telecommunication companies.

According to the Public Officials Ethics Act, retirement public officials are obliged to work in the first three years of retirement (two years before March 30, 2015), and in principle, those who are closely related to the work of the department or institution that they belong to during the five years before retirement. The ethics committee has to get a job approval beforehand in order to get a job within the due date. Especially, this regulation is designed to strengthen the restrictions on the rehabilitation of regulated agencies by regulators after it was pointed out that the officials of shipping companies and maritime regulatory authorities were in charge of revolving doors after the sinking of the lake in April 2014.
Actual measures during the first year, the telecommunications authorities also showed considerable care in reemployment in related industries. However, from April 2015, a year later, retirees have been working in a number of profit groups. In the end, the Ethics Committee ‘approves’ the fact that the former deputy minister of the regulator is working as an officer in a legal affairs corporation in charge of legal representative of a telecommunications company.
The Ethics Commission, at the time of the examination, stated, "We did not know that Sejong city will act as a lawyer for the telecommunications company to the Ministry of Information and Communication. I decided to approve the job because of the special reason. "Employment approval means an order to allow re-employment once it is recognized that ‘public interest’ or ‘professionalism’ specified in each item of Article 34 (3) of the Enforcement Decree of the Public Officials Ethics Act.
High-ranking officials who retired from the Future Department and the Korea Communications Commission retired as large-scale law firms and telecom companies in the past three years.
KTOA, a representative interest group of mobile operator, appoints a full-time vice chairman as a senior official.
