[Digital Times, Kim Yang-hyuk] About 1.5 of the 10 new SUVs (all-new sports utility vehicles) released by Honda this April showed corrosion in the car. Consumers are being protested by the corrosion of the new car, which is the car delivery period along with the exhibition car that sells the car. Honda Korea acknowledged this fact and announced that it would immediately identify the cause and take follow-up measures to resolve the situation.
According to the CR-V Honors Club, about 150 buyers of the Honda All-New CR-V are claiming corrosion damage.
The car was launched in April this year and sold 1064 units by July. More than one in ten car buyers are claiming corrosion damage. One buyer stated, "There was no such problem in cars sold until last year, but this problem is occurring only in the car released this year."
It has been confirmed that corrosion has occurred in vehicles exhibited at two of the three Honda stores in Seoul. Corrosion is mainly seen on the steering wheel, the metal parts at the bottom of the dashboard, and the inner iron welded parts.
The CR-V is produced at an American plant and imported and sold domestically. It takes about 70 days including two weeks to arrive in Korea through ship and one week to inspect the car in Korea. In the process of entering the country on board the boat, it is inevitably exposed to harsh environments such as sea breeze.
Lee Ho-keun, a professor at Daedeok University`s Automotive Department, pointed out, "Contrary to the appearance that most automobile manufacturers see, internal auxiliary parts do not do rust prevention work (plating to prevent metal rust). Over a year, the rust on the new car means that it can get worse over time. "
"We are now investigating vehicles manufactured in the United States and all vehicles coming into the country," a representative at Honda Korea said. "We will follow up quickly after finding the cause."
