SSL is expected to emerge in the market, including Komodo, Aiden Trust, and Global Sign, as Google does not recognize the Symantec Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate in its Web browser Chrome.

According to W3 Tech, a web technology research site on August 6, Komodo ranked first in the global SSL certificate issuance market with a share of 40.3% as of August.

It followed by Identrust (28.8%), Symantec (14%), Ancient D (7.5%), global sign (4.6%) and DigiSert (2.2%).

The SSL certificate is installed on the security server and displays `green bar` or `padlock` in the address bar of the homepage to check whether the homepage is tampered with or not.

Symantec is the third largest SSL certificate issuer in the world, focusing on its top-level `EV Certificate` business, and has had a significant impact on the market.

Domestic companies such as Kakao (Daum), Shinhan Bank, and Gmarket are applying Symantec VeriSign SSL certificate.

However, Symantec has uncovered an unauthorized, fraudulent SSL certificate issued to Google, which will be discontinued in the upgrade version of Chrome starting next April.

Besides, all SSL versions will no longer be able to use four SSL brands, including Symantec`s VeriSign and GeoTrust, in October. Customers who have installed Symantec SSL Certificates will be listed as "Untrusted Sites" in Chrome.

According to foreign industry sources, Symantec has decided to withdraw its SSL business after Google`s exit and agreed to sell it to private equity investor Tomabravo for USD 1 billion. Tomabravo plans to merge DigiSort and Symantec`s SSL business.

Meanwhile, Google is leading the CA browser forum, the SSL technology standards body.

An industry expert said, "Symantec has made a huge profit through its SSL certificate business. However, it seems to have decided to sell it after it has been unreasonably recovered after being caught by Google. We do not know what to do, but we do not have enough credibility to accelerate the escalation."

As Symantec`s withdrawal of SSL from Chromium becomes more dominant, there is a divergence among distributors of SSL certificate issuers in Korea.

The Korean electronic certificate, which is the distributor of Symantec SSL certificate, is expected to face a crisis of desperation in the market.

Meanwhile, Komodo`s exclusive Korean distributor, Korea Information Certification, plans to promote free replacement for Symantec SSL certificate customers to expand its customers.

"In the US, Komodo is already in the process of making a free replacement promotion, and the relevant guidelines have been issued in Korea, and the company is preparing to market it internally," a representative from Korea Information Certification Agency said.

Korea Securities Co., Ltd., which has been selling Symantec SSL certificates, has signed a global sales agreement with Symantec to promote Symantec`s SSL free replacement marketing.

A Symantec security company representative said, "Symantec`s SSL customers were more than 1,000. However, they could not sell any more, so we will target niche markets with global signatures signed last year."
