Since the announcement of second quarter earnings, the mobile industry`s common issues in the second half of the year are finding new growth engines. This is because the Korean government is concerned about a decline in profits due to pressure on household telecom services.

According to the industry on July 30, the government is pushing ahead with plans to increase the discount rate of selected contract plans from 20% to 25% immediately in September.

There are a lot of factors in the mobile industry such as universal fares and public Wi-Fi expansion, which have been pledges for the presidential election.

Meanwhile, KT and SK Telecom are expected to accelerate their transformation into a platform company announced earlier this year.

KT plans to lay the foundations for achieving the five major tasks (media, smart energy, corporate public value enhancement, financial transactions, disaster safety security) focusing on smart energy business, security and drone that produced good results in the second quarter.

In the case of the smart energy business, the company plans to launch the Giga Energy Manager, an energy efficiency service, in the third quarter. The technology developed at the AI Tech Center is expected to be applied to KT`s GiGa Ginie AI device.

SK plans to launch `Nugu 2` as a hidden card to capture the home IoT market while maintaining its existing strategy of concentrating on transforming itself into a platform company with two main axes of the Internet of Things (IoT) on the AI base.

The company plans to release `Nugu 2` in August, which is a product that enhances portability and price competitiveness by reducing the size of the existing AI speaker `who` It is expected that the price will be set at less than half of `Nugu` s price of KRW 199,000.

Besides, the company plans to link the AI platform with mobile communications, media, IoT, commerce, and T-map to offer products and services tailored to users with big data base.

Meanwhile LG U Plus is also preparing to launch new IoT handsets and services in October, which has seen remarkable growth in both wired and wireless communications in the second quarter.

Besides, it plans to create a new food item called Industrial IoT based on Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT). Industrial IoT has a wide range of applications ranging from meter reading, fire smoke detection sensor, subway line management to remote sensing and inspection, as well as inventory collection and cargo tracking.

An industry expert said, "The industry is struggling to find new food using telecommunication infrastructure, and the proportion of new businesses will continue to grow in the future."
