Recently, `Papago` of Naver in the Korean market for language and translation apps has been raising issues, and Hancom Group is looking for the reverse of `Genie Talk` in `Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games` held in February next year.

According to the Google Play Store on July 20, Naver¡¯s Papago has a cumulative number of downloads of one million, while Hancom Malang Malang and Genie Talk have about 100,000 downloads. After Naver launched its beta service last August, Papago focused its attention on aggressive marketing through TV commercials. The official version of the service will be available on July 19, and the PC version will be bundled. The service will be available in six languages including Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, French and Spanish, and Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian and Taiwanese will be added in the second half of this year.

Genie Talk is a service developed by Hancom Interfree, a subsidiary of Hancom Group, which was developed jointly by Korea Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI). The service was launched in July last year and 29 languages including Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese are supported. Both services are using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to increase the level of translation and interpretation services, but the Hancom Group gave an advantage in the marketing battle with Naver. According to this Best Investment Securities, the cost of Naver`s investment in Papago TV advertising costs is estimated to be between KRW 5 billion and KRW 10 billion. On the other hand, Genie Talk did not show relatively prominent marketing after the formal service launch.

The Hancom Group plans to recall it from the airport during the PyeongChang Olympic Games based on extensive marketing at bus stops, train stations, stadiums and other places. In fact, Genie Talk was selected as the official interpretation and interpretation service of the conference during the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Organizing Committee last year. The official of the Hancom Group Public Relations Team said, "We are expecting special effects during the competition because we are doing our best to establish a marketing plan that matches the PyeongChang Olympic season. Volunteers, athletes and VIPs can easily use Genie Talk and various types of devices."

Hancom Interfree representative said, "If other services are strong in everyday conversation such as new language, Genie Talk focuses on learning local nouns and sports terminology, medical, legal, and other fields, and establishing a database of terminology around the world.

Meanwhile, Naver plans to advertise Papago through its own marketing and publicity campaign for foreigners visiting the Pyeongchang Olympic Games.
