Naver`s free artificial intelligence (AI) translation service `Papago` will be released on January 19 for 200-character translations. It will be possible to translate long texts like Google one at a time and the competition between Korean and foreign companies in the AItranslation market is expected to get into full swing. The two companies will run AI translation services side by side and will accelerate the popularization of advanced machine translation services.
Naver revealed on July 18 that it will expand the maximum amount of text from 200 letters to 5000 letters in a single translation by updating the Android phone and iPapogo app as of July 19. The 5000 letter size is the same as the Google translation.
PC version of Papago will be launched on July 19. It is a measure that takes into account the demand for a PC environment in which long articles such as articles and articles are copied and translated.
Papago is a service which utilizes the AI technology `Neural Network Translation` (NMT). Because the AI learns to the context of the sentence, it results in a more natural translation than the previous statistical-based translation (SMT), which translates its meaning to words. Papago, which was released in August last year, has been automatically switched to statistical translation method instead of AI translation if the 200-letter limit is exceeded. AI translation was a temporary measure due to the need for much more computer resources than statistical translation.
Naver representative said, "We are pleased to announce Papago as a formal service after expanding equipment such as servers and preparing for service reinforcement. We plan to add Vietnamese, Indonesian and Thai languages to six existing languages such as English and Japanese within this year."
Earlier, Google introduced AI translation service in Korea last November. The quality of translation is much better than that of the previous SMT. Students and employers spend a lot of time when they need to look at foreign materials in Korean or in early English writing. There are Hangul and Computer (Hancom), Microsoft, Systran, and Flitto, which provide AI translation services in Korea.
