Helpless IBM cloud business…’Big3’ lagging behind

The company is not pursuing leading companies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft (Microsoft) while IBM is stepping up its cloud business, but rather being caught up with latecomer Google and being pushed out of the cloud `Big 3`.
According to Market Intelligence Service Magic Quadrant Report released by Gartner Inc. on July 17, IBM has not been in the leader group of AWS and Microsoft, and compared to Google in the same ‘Visionary’ group. It appears to belong to the lower part. AWS, Microsoft and Google are among the most market-leading positions. Gartner Magic Quadrant is an IT evaluation index that evaluates industry competitiveness based on `vision completeness` and `executive power` for a specific field. IBM was even placed lower than China`s Alibaba.
According to a survey by Synergy Research Group last year, the share of the global cloud infrastructure market was 41%, followed by Microsoft, IBM and Google. Especially, Google, which first entered the enterprise cloud market in 2013, was classified as other group by the time of the 2015 survey, but recently it has been classified as a Big 3 company instead of IBM.
In some cases, AWS and Google have experience in constructing and operating the company`s extensive and diverse B2C (business-to-consumer) service infrastructure and Microsoft has acquired UX (user experience). There is also an analysis that IBM is a hardware-driven company, and that it is being pulled from its fundamental competitiveness.
It is evaluated that the IBM cloud is pushed to the competitor in the Korean market. An industry representative said, "The IBM Cloud has not had a large customer base in Korea. For instance, the Hancom Group has offered to use the IBM cloud for free, and replaced it with the AWS cloud last year due to quality problems." Another industry expert said, "IBM has changed the name of its IaaS (Service Infrastructure) brand" soft layer "last year to" BlueMix ", making it more unfamiliar to domestic customers. "Unlike AWS and Microsoft, which have multiple data centers with cloud infrastructures in Korea, IBM has a single structure that is located only in the C & C Pangyo data center of SK Corporation, which shows that the demand for domestic customers is low.”
An IBM representative in Korea said, "We are currently securing several customers, but there is a part that we can not disclose."
