KT is in walk into smart energy business
KT has recently revealed that it intensively invested in related fields to expand its smart energy storage device (ESS) business, and is also strengthening its electric vehicle charging service business by commercializing mobile application for charging electric vehicle soon.
According to KT on July 13, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of the Environment will be able to receive subsidies from the Ministry of Environment if public chargers are installed in apartment buildings and business premises that do not purchase electric cars from this year. In the past, the car owner installed the charger directly, but now it is time to apply for charging the electric vehicle.
KT believes that the demand for electric vehicle is surging and that the automobile industry is rapidly re-centering around electric vehicles. KT acquired the status of being the first electric vehicle charging company in Korea and has been promoting charging business in March last year. Since then, the company has been selected as a specialist for installation and operation of a full-size electric charger by the Ministry of Environment.
In this regard, the company is currently in the business of building a rapid and permanent fixed charger. For instance, the company is piloting a public electric car charger that uses a public telephone booth at three locations in downtown Seoul. KT stated that it can charge a public phone box by replacing it with an electric vehicle charging booth, plugging the car on the road.
Besides, the company is expected to provide chargers for corporations such as rental cars and car sharing that introduce electric vehicles, as well as chargers, and charge services in the form of online software services (SaaS) for those who are burdened with managing and operating charging equipment directly . KT plans to introduce a variety of combined services such as vehicle-linked services, communications, and TV. Especially, the company will soon launch a mobile app dedicated to recharging electric vehicles considering the electric vehicle charging service platform and the convenience of electric car users. App users will be able to take advantage of the Internet of Things (IoT) location-based technology and mobile navigation to get to the nearest refueling station, and charge through the reservation function at the desired time, the company explained.
The company also mentioned that it will push forward the convergence type energy storage device (ESS) business in earnest. An ESS is a device which can store and draw power when needed. The company plans to provide ESS service through Energy Optimized Operation Management System (EMS) of KT-MEG, which is the world`s first energy integration control center. KT can use it based on users` purpose by dispersion of power peak and stabilization of renewable energy by using EMS. It is possible to operate several power sources and devices such as solar power, wind power, diesel generator, etc. in parallel by using one EMS Explained. Through the `KT-MEG Center` established in Gyeonggi province, the company provides 24-hour monitoring service on real-time power usage status, battery charge and discharge status, and supports real-time response and remote repair in case of failure.
