POSCO ICT to build ¡®Smart City¡¯ in Kuwait¡¦A new city in 3 times bigger than Bundang district to be constructed

POSCO ICT, first among Korean companies¡¯ is expected to start an overseas smart city development.

POSCO ICT (CEO Choi Doo-hwan), on April 16, has revealed that the company plans to participate in Smart city construction of Abdullah city of Kuwait.

Smart City is a project that enhances convenience of living and efficiency of city operation through applying ICT technology such as Internet of Things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence to urban infrastructures such as traffic, energy, and building. Kuwait plans to build a new city in the city of Abdullah, about three times the size of Bundang new city district (64.2§´), 30 kilometers west of the capital city of Kuwait. POSCO ICT will participate in the Korea Consortium of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) and will be in charge of designing ICT infrastructure including urban integrated operation center until next June.

Smart City is a new industry where POSCO ICT is preparing to integrate its group capabilities. In cooperation with POSCO, POSCO E & C and POSCO Energy in 2015, the company has established a Smart Solutions Committee and secured technologies and solutions in the fields of Smart City, Smart Factory and Smart Energy. Besides, POSCO E & C is speeding up its business by operating an emergency countermeasure team to promote the Smart City business.


Especially, POSCO ICT applies the Smart Industry platform `PosFrame` to Smart City, which realizes urban smartness through traffic, energy, building and safety. For example, intelligent sensors are installed at major roads, traffic information is collected and analyzed as big data to forecast vehicle flow and provide optimal traffic services. Also, company will build a micro grid environment that optimizes energy production and consumption using renewable energy such as solar energy and energy storage devices (ESS).
