The employee ¡®A¡¯ tried to log in to the home tax site for year-end settlement in 2019, unfortunately the certificate period expired. ¡®A¡¯ entered the bank homepage and tried to apply for the certificate again. When he recognized the fingerprint through his smart phone, the PC connected to the Bluetooth screen was logged in.

It will be possible to use biometric authentication such as fingerprint and iris without accessing Home Tax or We Tax or Minwon 24 homepage, thanks the introduction of biometric authentication technology in the financial sector as the government is attempting to incorporate it into next-generation E-government services.

According to the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs on March 30, the ministry will start a ``Next Generation Certification Framework Project`` under a budget of KRW 1 billion this year. The project will be carried out to build a biometric authentication infrastructure based on the international biometric standard -FIDO, and related pilot services for various E-government services. The scope of the project includes not only biometric authentication but also digital one pass and mobile simple authentication. Digital One Pass is a technology that can use all E-government services with only one ID and one-time authentication.

The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs is aiming to increase the satisfaction of service to the people through this project as many people have had to use the complicated certificate whenever they used E-government service. Biometric identification device is implemented as an optional certification system along with a public certificate since it is not a nationally distributed situation yet.

A representative of the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs said, ¡®The next generation authentication framework project is undergoing internal review process and will be launched within this year. We will consult with related organizations to determine which services will be introduced to which services and a useful site will provide a foundation for using biometric technology within next year.¡¯ There is no plan to introduce ``block chain`` which is emerging as a new authentication technology with biometric authentication.

In addition to biometric authentication, a personal authentication system is also planned to be provided through a credit card. The Korea Communications Commission has recently set up a committee to select experts for related fields such as academia and Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA) to establish a service for credit card authentication and jointly selected seven credit cards as trial companies. The formal service is expected to start in July.
