Samsung Electronics has unveiled its new smartphone ``Galaxy S8`` and ``Galaxy S8 Plus`` at the Lincoln Center in New York on March 29 at 11:00 am (local time).

The Galaxy S8 series are equipped with biometric technology such as facial recognition and fingerprint recognition, as well as iris recognition functions that have disappeared since Galaxy Note 7. Also the S8 series are equipped with a personal secretary ``Bixbee``, an artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, the company explained that the safety of batteries and other products was greatly improved.


The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are equipped with 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch super-AMOLED displays, respectively. Displays are meant to provide a wide screen with a ratio of 18.5: 9. Also, the edge curves became softer.

A Samsung representative said, ‘The American TV Association has set a standard ratio of 16: 9 so that we can see both 4: 3 aspect ratios TV and 21: 9 aspect ratio movies. 18.5: 9 ratio plays mobile video. the Galaxy S8 has become more elongated vertically, considering that the former aspect ratio of the Galaxy S7 is 16: 9.

In the meantime, the physical home button on the previously launched smartphones has disappeared from the Galaxy S8. The company replaced the physical home button with a ‘force touch’ icon on the screen in the process of maximizing the screen while minimizing the bezel (edge). ‘Force touch’ is a technique that responds to pressure as well as finger pressure. The company decided to name the big screen ``Infinite Display`` and filed a trademark application.

In particular, the company announced that it will compete with Apple’s ``Siri`` with its ``Bixby`` secretary of AI voice recognition. The company also improved security by reapplying iris recognition technology to Galaxy S8. Besides, the company applied Galaxy Nexus`` face recognition technology to Galaxy S8 again.

Bixby recognizes not only voice commands but also objects, letters, and pictures, and is able to shop, translate, watch TV, etc. according to a user’s voice commands. The company has placed a special button for the Bixby under the Galaxy S8 side volume button so that the user can easily use the Bixby.

Besides, the Galaxy S8 series are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the world``s first 10-nano process application, and its Axis 8895 as the mobile application processor (AP). The battery capacity of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus is 3000 mAh (mAh) and 3500 mAh respectively.

Go Dong-jin, President of Wireless business section of Samsung Electronics, who introduced Galaxy S8, said, ‘We have been thinking about what innovation consumers really want, and we have tried to achieve that innovation through the Galaxy S8. We will introduce various products, contents and services and provide new value to consumers.’

Meanwhile, 5 different colors of the Galaxy S8 such as △ orchid gray △ maple gold △ coral blue △ artic silver △ midnight black are available. The company will start pre sale through three domestic mobile telecommunication companies for 11 days from April 7 to April 19 since Galaxy S8 has been released. The domestic release date is April 21. The Galaxy S8 is priced at KRW 999,000 and the Galaxy S8 Plus is priced at KRW 1,110,000.
