‘Fake news filtering AI (Artificial Intelligence) to be selected as 10 future promising technologies

The technology that filters out ‘information pollution’ such as various kinds of fake testimonials, gossip, and fake news that floats the social network service (SNS) will attract attention in the future. Science and technology also act as problem solvers in the ``sensory pollution`` problem, which has not been seriously addressed by light, noise, and odors.
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP) announced on March 20 that it has selected the ‘10 Future Promising Technologies’ to protect the society that is threatened by various pollution factors.
KISTEP, which selects the key issues of the future society every year and draws up promising technologies with high social demand, has adopted the ‘life pollution and environmental pollution increase’ as the key issue that needs the biggest and urgent solution this year. In recent years, pollution that seriously affects the human body such as ultrafine dust continues to emerge. Especially, the pollution of life such as light, noise, and odor, which were not recognized as pollution due to industrialization and urbanization, have been increased and the science and technology’s role in the solution of this problems has become more important than ever.
Among the top ten technologies selected this year are △ super fine dust removal technology △ eco-friendly green tide • red tide removal technology △ advanced classification of municipal waste • recycling system △ environmental change real-time stereoscopic observation technology △ microbial environment restoration technology △ nuclear accident response system △ non-radioactive nondestructive and technology to solve traditional environmental pollution such as inspection technology. Besides, technological alternatives to solve new kinds of life pollution such as △ Internet of Things (IoT) based situation recognition type dimming technology △ active controlled noise reduction technology △ artificial intelligence (AI) fact check assistive technology has also been suggested.
On the other hand, ``IoT-based context-aware dimming technology`` that solves light pollution is a technology that automatically recognizes the surroundings and adjusts direction and intensity of light. It is used not only for prevention of light pollution but also for crime prevention and energy conservation. It is also possible to reproduce sunlight indoors and assist individual personalized health care.
In addition, ``Active Controlled Noise Reduction Technology`` is a technology that actively reduces noise after anticipating noise in real time, and it is expected to effectively reduce noise of subways, airports and highways.
‘AI fact check assistive technology’ that identifies facts in real time when conducting speech and discussion based on artificial intelligence, which is a technology to discriminate facts about politicians`` speeches and to provide transparent information by blocking various baseless rumors . By helping reporters and judges reduce time and resources to identify facts, it helps them make the right decisions quickly, and enhances media and society``s overall trust.
A research fellow at KISTEP, Park Jong-hwa, stated, ‘It is impossible to sustainable development of human beings without solving environmental pollution problems caused by the adverse effects of existing policies that emphasize economic growth. In this regard, 10 promising technologies in the future are significant in terms of emphasizing the social responsibility that science and technology should contribute to.’
