Fierce competition for AI•5G leadership expected ¡®after mobile¡¯

The new premium smartphone will be unveiled on February 27 at the ``Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017`` in Barcelona, Spain,. At the same time, there is expected fierce competition among global companies that have introduced more advanced technologies and services.

The theme of MWC this year is "Mobile, The Next Element." Various discussions on the 5G paradigm, which will take place after the era of smartphones such as 5th generation (G) mobile communication, AI service, VR, AR, IoT, are expected to be held.

If the ``hot issue`` of MWC was VR last year, AI is considered as a keyword in this year¡¯s MWC. AI competition of global companies is expected to be on track with the MWC this year after a voice recognition based AI services have started to appear on the market since the second half of last year. The Korean mobile-service companies have also introduced cutting-edge technologies and services to lead the global ICT market trend. SK Telecom is to launch AI and KT is to launch 5G as the main competition point.

This year too, SK Telecom is the only mobile-service company of the other three companies to set up an exclusive exhibition hall. The company has been setting up its own exclusive exhibition at the MWC for 8 consecutive years. The company``s 604§³ exhibition center is located in the 3rd hall of the main exhibition hall where global ICT companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Qualcomm, and Nokia are to compete. The theme of the exhibition is ``Connect Everything``.

SK Telecom is planning to display the future of AI in the 3rd hall. The company will exhibit 5G network-based AI service, AI combined smart home, VR•AR based realistic media, and a futuristic automobile connected car. AI service, the smart home, which controls household appliances through ¡®Who¡¯ and 360 degree VR live stream are expected to attract visitors. It is also noticeable that corporate products supported by the company venture development program will be used in the exhibition booth. SK Telecom built the outer wall of the exhibition hall with the flexible transparent LED display of Leon Company. This display is a digital signage that is able to play video or display text on a transparent glass that is exposed to the other side of the wall. Park Jung Ho, the president of SK Telecom, is about to lead AI and 5G leadership enforcement. President Park is planned to attend the GSMA board meeting to discuss on global ICT ecosystem development plan and meet with various ICT companies for new cooperation plans.

KT nominated 5G instead of AI. The company is planning to show the 5G network and convergence service in connection with the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games and visitors will have opportunity to experience 5 G network along with convergence service. The company will exhibit the 5G Olympic demonstration service at GSMA ``Innovation City`` at the GSMA in 4th hall. Hologram, 360 degree VR video, and sports IoT. The company is also planning to exhibit the narrowband IoT applied life jackets as well. AT & T, Cisco, Huawei and mobile service company- Sierra of India will exhibit connected cars, drones and healthcare along with KT in ``Innovation City`` hall. In addition, President Hwang Chang Kyu will make a keynote speech at 9 am (local time) on the February 27, the opening day of the MWC. The theme is ``Mobile, The Next Element`` which is the same as the whole event.

Lee Yong Kyu, executive director of KT Network Division, said that ¡®Most of the Olympics games are broadcasted through TV, and I am interested in how to transmit 5G content through TV.¡¯ He also said that ¡®the life Jacket, on the other hand, was appraised as necessary IOT service for users in the in the prior meeting¡¯.

Kwon Young Soo- Vice President of LGU Plus is also planned to visit MWC this year. Vice President Kwon¡¯s visit to MWC will be the first official visit after his appointment as Vice President. Vice President Kwon will visit global business booths to understand new technology trends and meet with overseas mobile-service companies and manufacturers.
