OLED TV market is expected to grow sharply this year, while global LCD TV market is growing backwards.

According to market researcher WitsView on December 19, global LCD TV shipments totaled 206.3 million units this year, down 4.1 % from last year.

The shipment volume by each maker is kept at the top spot of 42.995 million units by Samsung Electronics. Followed by LG Electronics with 28.3 million units, China TCL with 14.3 million units, HiSense with 12.8 million units, Japan with 12.25 million units, and Sharp with 9.4 million units.

However, next year, sales of LCD TVs are projected to increase by 3.9% to 218.8 million units.

Especially, Samsung Electronics, the No. 1 maker in the industry, expects LCD TV shipments to fall by 1% next year, but it will play a crucial role in securing high-definition 4K and 49-inch and larger products by focusing on premium QLED TV marketing. WitsView predicted.

LG Electronics expects LCD TV shipments to climb 0.7% next year, while Samsung Electronics is expected to keep the top two global markets.

Meanwhile, the OLED TV market is expected to increase by 72% this year, with shipments reaching 1.5 million units this year. Next year, the company predicts that OLED TV makers such as LG Electronics and Japan Sony will expand their premium products and reinforce marketing.

Panasonic, Philips, Bang & Olufsen, etc. have joined the OLED TV camp, and have started to spread the OLED TV market.

An industry expert said, "Next year, large-sized, high-definition, OLED, etc. will become key keywords in the world TV market next year," he said. "The demand for TVs is expected to increase due to major sports events such as the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games in February and the US Super Bowl and World Cup."
