Coway 'Maian Han Water Purifier' with Coway Internet of Things (IoT) technology
[Digital Times, Kim Eun] Mid-sized home appliances companies are leaping forward in the smart home appliances market where artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) are applied in addition to large-sized companies such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.
According to the industry on October 30, SK Magic plans to release a new sterilizing clean humidifier with IoT function within the year. It is known to be a product that can check real-time air and accumulated air quality information with smartphone application. At the same time, the company is preparing to provide a variety of life-friendly services such as device control, indoor air quality management, health management, voice recognition, and artificial intelligence by linking home appliances to SK Telecom`s smart home applications. It will complete the computer development for this November and will start smart home service from early December.
Coway is also negotiating with the company to apply Amazon`s artificial intelligence speech recognition (AI) technology to water purifiers and air purifiers, and to introduce products using the AI speech recognition technology developed by Naverline into air purifiers. It also operate a smart sales system based on Big Data and analyze customer convenience based on data on customer status, population density, and surrounding facilities.
Dongbu Daewoo Electronics plans to apply the global IoT standard technology to expand its IoT consumer electronics portfolio next year, and is preparing for related home appliance certification work.
LG Electronics, on the other hand, which has been leading the smart home appliances market applying artificial intelligence and Internet of things, also released speech recognition air conditioner that can be controlled by applying artificial intelligence in August. Samsung Electronics is also expanding its product lineup from the Chef Collection series, T900 series and general side-by-side refrigerators since launching the Family Hub, the refrigerator to which the Internet was applied for the first time in the industry.
The home appliance industry forecasts that the domestic Internet appliance market will grow to 19 trillion won by 2018, which is about 10 trillion won and rapidly growing every year. The mid-sized home appliance makers expected new growth opportunities in the home appliance market, which has been saturated with the Internet technology. IOT and AI technologies are used to accumulate data, analyze consumer usage patterns, and release products that reflect the functions required by consumers based on the release of new products in the future.
