[Digital Times, Kim Yang-hyuk] Volt EVs in Korea`s GM Electric Vehicle Owners who are not familiar with `ghost Hi-pass terminal` are registered with Korea Highway Corporation and suffer damage such as being unable to receive discounts on EV tariffs. This is due to a system error caused by duplicate registration of existing and replacement terminals in road construction.
According to Korea GM, the company plans to open the high-pass terminal free of charge at 20 service centers nationwide on October 26, targeting Volt EV owners. The government has taken a 50% discount on tolls for electric cars and hydrogen cars last month.
However, in the case of a Hi-pass free replacement, some car owners are not aware of their ghost terminals, so it was confirmed that they did not receive any discounts on their high-pass handsets. The Hi-pass terminal can be changed and registered at the automobile branch without the consent of the owner of the high-pass terminal.
Therefore, a GM representative in Korea said, "This is not frequent case, but we received an answer from the road construction company. So, we decided to take measures so that the borrower can solve the problem if the owner suggests the problem."
The highway corporation is in the position to take immediate action in response to the request. A road construction official stated, "Even if a terminal is changed, a discount code is given to each terminal. If the terminal is changed and the jack is directly connected and the code is not assigned to the changed terminal, the discount is also granted to the existing terminal, there is a case.¡¯
