Samsung Electronics is strengthening its marketing of its flagship TV brand `QLED TV`, and is frowning with fierce scratches on competitors` organic light emitting diode (OLED) TVs. Earlier, it raised the problem of after-image of OLED display on YouTube video, and criticized it as inappropriate on TV by introducing similar contents on its Internet news site.
According to the industry on October 24, Samsung Electronics pointed out the OLED TV problem through a post titled `Why is the TV common sense and the burn-in phenomenon usable if I know it` in Samsung News Room, which is its own Internet blog the day before.
A burn-in phenomenon is a phenomenon in which an image such as a broadcaster logo is displayed on the TV screen for a long time at the same position. Samsung Electronics disclosed the results of the experiment on burning phenomenon of the US IT media Altin, stating, "10 points of QLED TV was 10 points, but OLED TV was half of 5.5".
Samsung Electronics also pointed out that OLED TVs are composed of organic materials and their color reproduction power deteriorates over time, but QLED TVs are not easily changed because they are inorganic. The durability is important considering the characteristics of long-lasting TV, he pointed out the problems of OLED TV.
Earlier this month, Samsung raised the issue of afterimage of OLED by uploading a video called "QLED vs. OLED, 12-hour screen afterimage test" to YouTube at the end of last month.
Meanwhile Lee Yoon, managing director of Samsung Electronics` video display division, pointed out in a press briefing on the 20th that "comparative marketing is a common technique" and "it is our duty to deliver accurate TV value to consumers as an industry leader."
LG Electronics, on the other hand, has refrained from counterattacking against it, but has been unable to hide its uncomfortable tone. An official of LG Electronics said, "We are sorry that Korean companies should do so in the face of intense global competition environment."
