Emotion recognition robot ‘Pepper’ to enter Korea next month… LGU+ to be equipped with AI

Pepper, an artificial intelligence robot capable of recognizing emotions such as joy and anger, will land in October. Pepper is a humanoid robot developed by Softbank Robotics in Japan. It is a robot that can detect changes in human facial expressions and sounds through artificial intelligence and detect emotional states.
Pepper is introduced by LG U Plus and Woori Bank, Gachon Daegu Hospital, Lotte Department Store and E-Mart.
First, LG U Plus will introduce Pepper into the field of finance, bookstore and medical care including its own flagship store from October 11, and start pilot operation. Pepper is equipped with the first AI platform developed by LG Uplus, which provides dialogue and customized product recommendation in various fields such as human resources, weather, and knowledge search.
LG U Plus was the first to unveil the AI platform through robots unlike other carriers offering AI services through speakers.
LG U Plus is expected to exhibit Pepper in a customer-impressive flagship store per minute and enter pilot operation for one year.
"It is the first time in Korea that artificial intelligence technology is applied to Pepper," said Song Yu-won, vice president of AI devices for LG U +. "As companies representing various industries are participating, we expect that service utilization will increase further."
Woori Bank will display the Pepper at the Head Office, Myeongdong Financial Center, and Yeouido Finance Center, and will hand out window guides and product recommendations. The Kyobo Book Store is the first in the bookstore industry to introduce features such as Pepper apps at bookstores and book recommendations.
In the Gachon University Gil Hospital, Pepper is placed in the main building lobby and artificial intelligence cancer center to provide patient response and health information. In future, it will be placed in a ward that is difficult to access to the general public such as clean room and intensive care unit.
Lotte Department Store is also expected to exhibit Pepper on October 1 and participate Pepper in opening event.
E-Mart will launch a robot assistant service using Pepper at Starfield Goyang Toy Kingdom starting next month.
