Samsung Electronics` Galaxy Note 8, a strategic smartphone in the second half of the year, is approaching the market for the past week, and attention is focused on whether or not the notebook series will recover. As for Samsung Electronics, reviving the lost wing after the Galaxy Note 7 battery explosion in the second half of last year is the key factor for the success of the smartphone business.

Samsung Electronics unveiled a teaser video on its YouTube channel ahead of the launch of the Galaxy Note 8 on August 16. Galaxy Note 8 will be released in New York, USA on August 23 and will be released next month.

It has a huge challenge to prove the safety of the Galaxy Note 8 as well as its high expectations for performance at Samsung Electronics. Galaxy Note 8 is a sequel to the Galaxy Note 7, which Samsung decided to discontinue early due to a battery malfunction. It was true that the second half of last year, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S8 series were the only ones to hit the market although the Galaxy S8 series launched in the first half of the year led to a positive performance.

Samsung has been equipped with a smartphone premium product line in the first half of the Galaxy S series and the second half of the Galaxy Note series. The Galaxy S series is Samsung`s premium product.

The sales volume of Samsung Galaxy S4 has reached 70 million units, Galaxy S5 45 million units, Galaxy S6 (including Edge) 45 million units, and Galaxy S7 (including Edge) 52 million units. The Galaxy S8 (including Edge) is also estimated to exceed 60 million units.

Although the Galaxy Note series has a smaller sales volume than the Galaxy S, The fact that the notebook series has been in a blank state since last year`s half of the year indicates that whether or not the notebook is out of the bad news is likely to be the scale of this note.

Samsung Electronics` second quarter operating profit for the past three years reflects sales of new Galaxy S products, operating profit of more than KRW 4 trillion, except for 2015, when Galaxy S6 Edge products failed to meet demand. Although the company posted operating profit of KRW 460 billion in the second half on the back of strong sales of the Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note should recover its reputation. Galaxy Note 5, released in August 2015, reflected operating profit of KRW 2.4 trillion in the third quarter of 2015 and KRW 2.23 trillion in the fourth quarter. However, the operating profit of Samsung`s IM division dropped to 95% in the third quarter from 100% of the previous year.

There is a possibility that safety problems will come back to public attention.

Koh Dong-jin, CEO of Mobile Communication division of Samsung Electronics said, "In April, we launched the Galaxy S8 and designed the software to reduce battery consumption. Some of them showed expectations for Note 8 due to strong sales of Galaxy S8 in the first half and Galaxy Note FE sales of Galaxy Note 7, a referee phone. An industry expert pointed out, "Galaxy S8 series shipments have surpassed 20 million units, and the limited number of Note 7 FE phones has been exhausted quickly, so consumers can be relieved of their safety and if we do not, honor recovery can be possible."
