Hyundai Motor succeeded in autonomously driving 190 kilometers of highway using hydrogen-fueled electric car for the first time in the world. Hyundai said it plans to use the technology until 2030. Hyundai mentioned that it plans to use the technology until 2030.

Hyundai Motor Co. announced on February 4 that it succeeded in autonomous driving of about 190km of expressway between Seoul and Pyeongchang on five days with five autonomous vehicles such as `Genesis G80` and `Nexso`, the next generation hydrogen fuel electric car. The company explained that it was the first time in the world that it succeeded in autonomous driving with a hydrogen electric car.

The demonstration began by pressing the `CRUISE` and `SET` buttons on the autonomous steering wheel. The car immediately switched to autonomous mode and began to drive on the highway. After departing from the plaza rest stop of the Gyeongbu Expressway down line meeting, passing through Shingal JC, passing through Yongdonggo speed, I got out of Daegwallyeong IC and arrived at Daegwanryong toll gate which is the final destination.

Meanwhile, there have been some demonstrations of autonomous driving technology at limited speeds on some domestic expressways. However, it is the first time that autonomous driving has succeeded at a maximum speed of 110 km / h, which is the maximum speed allowed by the regulations of each section, for a long distance course of several hundred km. Hyundai`s autonomous driving technology corresponds to the fourth stage of autonomous driving prescribed by the American Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). This criterion is composed of 0 ~ 5 steps, and the higher the step, the higher the technological power. The 5th and 4th steps, which mean a completely unmanned car that does not require a driver, are classified as fully autonomous driving technology. The company said it will commercialize its 5-step autonomous navigation technology by 2030.

On the other hand, the highway autonomous vehicle was also equipped with the fifth generation (G) mobile communication network technology. It is equipped with 5G Connected Car technology such as `Kato Home` which controls the house with one touch of the car, `Assistant Chat` of intelligent voice recognition chatting, and `Wellness Care` which measures the driver`s stress and helps the driver to relax. During the PyeongChang Olympic Games and the Winter Paralympics, Hyundai operates an autonomous driving experience vehicle for the general public in PyeongChang.
