[Digital Times, Park Seul-gee] Global OLED TV shipments are expected to increase more than one year in the third quarter. OLED TV shipment prices have fallen sharply due to higher prices than liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and the number of companies participating in the OLED TV camp has increased.

According to market researcher IHS Markit September 10, global OLED TV shipments in the third quarter of this year are estimated to be about 340,000, up 140 % from the same period last year (about 143,000). Overall TV shipments, including LCD and OLED, grew 1.4% in the same period. It is expected to increase by 20.8% compared to the second quarter (about 282,000 units). This is largely because LG Electronics, which is leading the OLED market, has increased product shipments.

LG Electronics OLED TV shipments in the third quarter are expected to increase to about 247,000 units, up 86.7% from the same period last year in the industry.

Sony and Toshiba began shipping OLED TVs in March, and Panasonic began shipping OLED TVs in June. China`s Changhong, Concord and Skyworth, which first introduced OLED TV in 2014, is forecast to increase shipments by 53 times, 3 times, and 2 times, respectively, in the third quarter.

OLED display panel prices continue to decline as economies of scale arise as TV makers continue to increase shipments. The ASP of OLED TV panels declined about 14% from the third quarter of 2015 as of the first quarter of this year.

TV prices are also falling. In the case of LG Electronics, 55-inch OLED TV shipment prices were set at KRW 15 million for high-definition (full HD) in 2013. However, the price of ultra-high definition (UHD) dropped to KRW 3.69 million earlier this year. 65-inch UHD OLED TVs fell from KRW 11 million in early 2015 to KRW 7.40 million this year.

TV makers are aggressive in price cut marketing, and OLED TV shipments are expected to exceed 400,000 units in the fourth quarter.

In the global TV market, OLED products account for as much as 11 % of OLED products, up from 4 % this year, according to IHS Markit.

An industry expert mentioned, "In the premium TV market with more than USD 2500, OLED market share will rise from 35% in the first half to 47% in the first half of the year, which is expected to rise in the second half of the year. It is expected to grow. "
