Smartphone manufacturers are expected to release high-end smartphones that will exceed KRW 1 million in the second half of this year. Recently, as the number of low-priced smartphones has increased, the price difference in the same smartphone has been widening.

According to the industry on August 16, major smartphone makers are planning to launch second-tier smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (64GB), which Samsung is launching next month, is priced at a maximum of KRW 1.23 million. Galaxy Note 5 `and` Galaxy Note 7 `were KRW 898,800 and KRW 988,900, respectively. The Samsung Galaxy S8 + (128GB), which was launched in the first half of last year, is priced at KRW 1,155,000 and has been shipped in KRW 1 million.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics is also expected to release a smartphone for KRW 1 million. The V30 to be released next month is expected to be KRW 800,000 and the V30 Plus (128GB) is expected to be KRW 1 million.

It is estimated that the price of the iPhone 8, which Apple will release as its 10th anniversary model, will exceed USD 1,000. Some even say it will exceed USD 1,400.

The reason for the rise in smartphone shipments is that the specification is higher than before. In fact, in the second half of the year, all of the smart phones are said to have a 1300-megapixel dual camera, OLED display, fingerprint recognition, and iris recognition. It is the industry`s core that the price increase was inevitable while strengthening durability such as waterproof and dustproof.

In contrast to skyrocketing premium phone prices, low to mid-priced phones remain at similar levels. The price difference between the best and the lowest smartphones is getting bigger.

Samsung Electronics launched the low-end Galaxy J series 2017 model earlier this month in addition to the Galaxy A series of KRW 500,000. LGU Plus released the Galaxy J3 for KRW 270,000, and KT sold the Galaxy J7 for KRW 300,000. The Galaxy J3 is Samsung`s most affordable smartphone this year. The price of the Galaxy J3 model, which was introduced last year, was 231,000 won, though the price went up slightly.

Last year, the difference between Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy J3 was KRW 757,900. Though it is an estimate, if the price of Galaxy Note 8 is set at KRW 1.3 million, the Galaxy J3 will be worth more than KRW 1 million.

LG Electronics is also getting more pricing difference between the premium V and G series and the low-end models, the X series. LG Electronics released the V20 and G6 in September and March of last year, and it is KRW 899,800. The highest and lowest prices released at similar times are KRW 580,000. The LG X400, a low-end smartphone launched in February, was worth KRW 319,000. The V30 is expected to be priced at around KRW 900,000, and the X500, released in June, is also KRW 319,000.

"As the smartphone market is saturated, we are turning our strategy to fill various niches according to the needs of consumers," an industry expert said.
