¡®Two way charger¡¯ launched to electricity supply to a family by EV

Hyundai Mobis has developed core technology which can be applied as an energy storage device (ESS) that moves electric vehicles. It is a technology that enables electricity to be supplied to homes when an electric car that has consumed electricity is parked. Hyundai Mobis expects to be able to apply this technology to mass-produced vehicles from 2020 once the charging facilities and related policies are in place.

Hyundai Mobis, on August 16, announced that it has developed the first OBC (Charged Vehicle) equipped with electric car that is essential for vehicle and grid connection (V2G) implementation in Korea. V2G is a technology that supplies electric energy stored in electric car batteries to the power grid. Once this technology becomes reality, four electric cars and 20 households can supply the energy used for a day. The related industry expects that if V2G application vehicle exceeds 100,000 units, it will be able to supply electricity equivalent to the power generation capacity of the first thermal power plant (500 MW). ¡â rechargeable green car ¡â bidirectional OBC ¡â bidirectional charging station ¡â discharge charge system are needed in order to implement V2G. Hyundai Mobis said it was the first time that the two-way OBC in Korea was applied to eco-friendly cars to verify the safety performance and develop it to commercialization level through demonstration projects. The OBC has also developed the same size as the existing unidirectional charger, so it can be applied to mass-produced vehicles. Grandview Research, a North American consulting firm, predicts that the V2X (Vehicle to Everything) market, including V2G, will grow to USD 26.7 billion by 2025.

"V2G is expected to be commercialized in Korea in 2020," said Ahn Byung-ki, director of eco-friendly design. He also added, "We will reduce OBC size in two directions and reduce energy loss rate even further."
