Samsung Electronics, which is developing its automobile electric parts business, has expanded its business area to the manufacturing process management of the automobile.

According to industry sources on May 23, Fiat Chrysler Group (FCA) is cooperating with Samsung Electronics to apply the security solutions of Knox, Gears S3 frontier and touch screen boards to the Alpha Romeo manufacturing facility at the Casio plant in Frosinone, Italy and enhanced process efficiency.

FCA installed Samsung`s high-quality touch screen in its production facilities, allowing it to be seen at a glance. Besides, Samsung Knox has strengthened the security of manufacturing management data by applying smartphones and tablet PCs. In addition, gear S3 has been applied to some production facilities in conjunction with FCA MES (Manufacturing Execution System), which is a production control system. It is possible to report the completion of the production process work in real time without interfacing with the smartphone, and send a signal to the manager as soon as a problem occurs.

This plant, established in 1972, is one of the core production bases of FCA, which has produced more than 7.3 million cars. There are about 1000 production capacity per day and about 4300 employees. Part of the industry believes that Samsung has participated in this business and gained considerable experience in the production processes automation.

Samsung and FCA are in close partnership. Lee Jae-yong, vice president of Samsung Electronics, has served as an outside director of FCA holding company, Axor, until April. Samsung Electronics` AMOLED (Active Organic Light Emitting Diode) panel and electric battery F500e etc. have been applied to F500e EV.

Samsung Electronics also has partnerships with major automakers such as Audi, Peugeot, Ford and Mazda. Samsing supplied automotive application processor (AP) semiconductors to Audi and automotive private internet of things (IoT) platform `Artic Cloud` to Peugeot. Samsung cooperated with Mazda and Ford on Bluetooth integration between infotainment systems and smartphones.

Samsung Electronics representative stated, "We do not know the details as it is a business carried out by an Italian corporation itself. In addition to Harman`s automobile electric device business, IM (IT and mobile) businesses also engage in a variety of B2B business related to automobiles."
